PED-Board Driving 2.5 MW 3-Level NPC for Urban Railway Energy Recovery

The PED Board was used to control a 2.5 MW three level NPC converter dedicated to regenerative braking energy recovery in urban railway systems. In this application, the platform manages real time power flow from the DC catenary back into the AC grid, enabling efficient energy reinjection and improving the overall performance of the railway infrastructure.

    Key features

    • Full control of a three level NPC converter enabling bidirectional energy flow between the DC overhead line and the AC grid.
    • Fast and stable control algorithm combining feed forward and PID to maximize the recoverable braking energy during the critical first seconds.
    • Real time monitoring of catenary electrical variables to drive converter modulation under rapidly changing operating conditions.
